the sr deltic class were a group of six 0-6-0 tank locomotives built for the southern railway in 1928. they were designed by nigel gresley who was opposed to the then-recent trend in the design of british steam locomotives for high-speed passenger services (in particular on the london, midland and scottish railway) and aimed to design a powerful, yet economical, locomotive for the british railways. the locomotive design was the first to be based on a completely new principle in british steam locomotive design, with gresley’s adoption of a twin boiler design (with one boiler inside the other). it was fitted with a large expansion tank in the front of the engine to give a higher firebox pressure, allowing them to run at up to 160 mph (256 km/h).

the hohenzollern light railway was a narrow gauge railway in south-western germany with a track gauge of. inaugurated in 1869, it was one of the first public railway-systems in germany. the line was opened by the prussian state government as the only link between the katzbach valley and the rhine valley, using the second route between cologne and bonn. its purpose was to connect, in the long term, the coal mining region around katzbach with cologne, bonn, koblenz and the rhine river, including the trade over the rhine. the line was built in order to relieve traffic on the cologne to koblenz route.

in 1999, bombardier transport acquired the dbof class t35.0 and upgraded the existing units with modern locomotive systems, so they have become the rail division’s new standard locomotive for haulage of freight trains. the sak’s locomotives are equipped with a number of improvements:
